How To: Keep unwanted mails out of your inbox
Login to your email account, Go to inbox mails
To remove spam from your inbox:
1. Select the message you'd like to report.
2. Click the spam button in the toolbar above your message list.
(If you have the message open, you can also report it as spam by using the same button.)
To remove spam forever:
Click the Spam link along the left side of any Gmail page. (If you don't see Spam along the left side of your Gmail page, click the More drop-down menu at the bottom of your labels list.)
Select the messages you'd like to delete and click Delete forever.
Or delete everything by clicking Delete all spam messages now.
The more spam you mark, the better our system will get at weeding out those annoying messages. If you or we mark a good message as spam, select the message and click Not Spam at the top of the message. If you marked it as spam, you can also immediately click Undo afterwards to recover the message.
Block unwanted emails
If you’re getting emails you don’t want in your inbox, you can block the sender, unsubscribe from the sender, or report the message depending on the type of email.
Block a sender: Emails from senders you block will be sent to your spam folder.
Open the email.
At the top right of the email, click the down arrow.
Click Block [sender].
If you blocked someone by mistake, you can unblock them using the same steps.
View and edit senders you’ve blocked
Open the email account.
Click the gear icon Settings.
Click Settings.
Click Filters and Blocked Addresses and scroll to the bottom.
Suspicious email asking for personal information
If you see a suspicious email asking for personal information, you can report the email for phishing.
Open the email you'd like to report.
At the top right of the message next to the Reply button, click the down arrow.
Select Report Phishing.
Remember, every time you report spam or phishing, it helps us identify those emails as spam for you in the future.
I'm on the mailing list for a shopping site, social network, or similar site
You might be subscribed to a site that sends you frequent updates, like emails about upcoming sales. To unsubscribe to these emails:
Open one of the emails.
Click the Unsubscribe or Change Preferences link at the bottom.
If you don’t see these links, you can block the sender (see instructions at the top of this article), or mark it as spam.
Harassment from a Gmail user
Somaiya Email Program Policies state that:
"In addition to (and/or as some examples of) the violations described in the terms of service, users may not ... Send, upload, distribute or disseminate or offer to do the same with respect to any unlawful, defamatory, harassing, abusive, fraudulent, infringing, obscene, or otherwise objectionable content"
First, if you feel that you are in danger, we suggest contacting your local authorities. For nuisance emails, we suggest setting up a filter in Gmail to send mail from the sender directly to your trash. If you have a Gmail address, please read How do I set up filters? for instructions.
Because message headers and senders can be spoofed using a variety of means, we're unable to take action on any user without further verification. In accordance with state and federal law, it is Google's policy only to provide information about a specific Gmail user pursuant to a valid third party subpoena or other appropriate legal process. You can report a Gmail user who is violating Gmail policies here.
We apologize for any inconvenience, and we're sorry that you're receiving such messages.
