A Guide On Library Self Check System
Through Library Self Check system student/faculty/staff can Self Borrow, Return, Renew the books on their own. Also view information on their library account.
We will look into Standard Operating Procedure of Library Self Check System, an intuitive self-service software for SVV libraries, and how users can use the software to independently complete some simple library processes.
These processes include allowing users to check items out, renew borrowed items, return items and view information on their library account.

Action Buttons :
The Action buttons show the processes which the user can complete using the kiosk, including Check-out (Borrow), Renew, Check-in (Return) and Account Summary.
The kiosk has smart card functionality, the user can hold their RFID enabled card against the smart card reader to login. The smart card reader has a contactless icon displayed on it.
How to do Check-out / Borrow
User needs to select Check-out / Borrow option from the Welcome Screen for performing the transaction. The first step is to do authentication by using your Member ID Card OR else by using your SVV NetID and Password, as shown in the screenshot 2, 3 & 4.
After successful authentication the user are requested to put the books he/she has to Check-out / Borrow, as shown in the screenshot 5.
Note : At a time user can put more than 1 items.
The system will check the books and once the row goes green the books are issued / Borrowed successfully as shown in the screenshot 6.
Then user needs to click on Done button to proceed further so it will navigate to the Receipt screen. In the same, user will have options of Print Receipt, Email Receipt, No Receipt. We recommend to always refer Email Receipt option to save paper wastages.

If a valid patron card is scanned before a specific option is selected, the user will be taken to the Check-out / Borrow screen.
Alternatively, select Enter SVV NetID and use the on screen keyboard to manually enter the SVV NetID and Password.

If the transaction has been successful, the item title will appear in the table on screen with a tick
icon next to it and the due date. The row will also be highlighted in bold green.

How to do Check-In / Return
User needs to click on Check-In / Return option and then place the Books on the self check the book will be return successfully. Then user needs to click on Done button to proceed further so it will navigate to the Receipt screen. In the same user will have options of Print Receipt, Email Receipt, No Receipt, as shown is the screenshot 8, we recommend to always refer Email Receipt option to save paper wastages. In case of overdue fine you can use Print Receipt option for payment clearness.
Note : For Email Receipt option user needs to enter his/her somaiya email as shown in the screenshot 9 and press Enter, you will receive an email in your inbox.

How to check Account Summary & Renew Item(s)
My Account is an combination of two services. The first is user can get an overview of the books borrowed, reserved and overdue fine if any and by clicking on the respective section, as shown in the screenshot 10. Once you clicked on the respective section for example [Borrowed] you can see the list of borrowed books with an due date, as shown in the screenshot 11. From there itself user can renew his/her book by simply clicking on the check box, the row will go green then click on Done button, as shown in the screenshot 12.
Note : 1] User dont need physical book at the time of renewal. 2] From the Library self check user can only see the Reserved book list but if he/she needs to go to opac.somaiya.edu for reservation or cancellation of the books.

General Alerts :
1 : Unsuccessful Authentication
If the login process is unsuccessful, either because the wrong SVV NetID or Password has been entered or the user account has been blocked, the following message will be displayed, prompting the user to take their items to the staff desk.
2 : Timeout Message : Your session will soon expire
If the users is entered in any respective transaction and he/she has kept the screen idle so after 30 seconds. The self check system will given an alert of the following screenshot 12.
If the user want to continue the transaction he/she has to click on Continue OR if you to end the transaction click on Done.
