Internet Access Policy & Guidelines
1. Purpose of Policy
1.1. This policy outlines the Somaiya Vidyavihar (SVV) provision of Internet services to the SVV community.
1.2. The Somaiya Vidyavihar is committed to the appropriate use of Information Technology Services & Resources in support of its teaching, research, administrative, and service functions.
1.3. Users of the Information Technology facilities must comply with these requirements which have been designed to allow all users to make optimal and legitimate use of the facilities. The Somaiya Vidyavihar requires users to accept the Internet Access policy.

3. Internet Access and Acceptable Use
3.1. The SVV encourages the use of the Internet, including email and web services, to facilitate communication and collaboration among internal users and with the external community and to allow greater efficiency in teaching, research, administrative and service functions.
3.2. To utilise the SVV’ s Internet resources it is necessary to have a user account. i.e. SVVnetID & Password.
3.3. Protect your SVVnetID and password to prevent other users from using credentials to use IT resources. When you receive your SVVnetID you should change your password as soon as possible by visiting http://172.31.0.25/svvad/ . You can protect yourself by never telling your password to anyone and not writing your password down.
3.3 When using a web browser and accessing an external site, a user is prompted to authenticate themselves using their user account, i.e. SVVnetID and password. Having authenticated themselves all internet traffic will then be attributed against the SVVnetID.
3.4 Use the Internet only in relation to your course of study or work at the SVV.
4. Internet Access Policy
4.1 No quota is imposed for students, staff and faculties (uncapped accounts). Restrictions may be imposed by the relevant authority, where usage is deemed to have been inappropriate.
4.2.Internet log files will be stored on a secure system. It is therefore subject to disclosure for legal reasons or to other appropriate third parties.
4.3.The volume of Internet traffic is monitored closely to ensure appropriate and cost effective use of internet services. All sites and downloads may be monitored and/or blocked by SVV if they are deemed to be harmful and/or inappropriate
4.4.A user’ s access will be withdrawn in response to written request from an appropriate staff member. Access may also be withdrawn by ITS in response to a suspected policy violation.
4.5. Do not access private email accounts such as Yahoo or Hotmail via SVV computers. The SVV provides you with an email account for SVV related work available at mail.somaiya.edu.
4.6. Do not download video and audio files except when absolutely necessary, or files with significant graphical content.
4.7.All users are prohibited from viewing ,creating ,accessing and attempting to access inappropriate material. Internet facility should not be used to send any Emails with content that is deemed to be offensive. This includes, though is not restricted to, the use of vulgar or harassing language/images, threatening messages.
4.8. It is unacceptable to use internet services for downloading, copying or pirating software and electronic files that are copyrighted or without authorization.
4.9 The SVV will restrict access to certain categories of websites, that contain pornographic and / or objectionable material.
4.10.Using SVVnetID user can logon to maximum two devices at a time.
