1.PURPOSE
Provide internet access to guest visiting Somaiya Campus and staying in hostel premises for short duration of time.
2. INTRODUCTION
As part of standard facility internet is provided to guest members with proper username and password.
3. SCOPE
Internet access is given to personal devices of guest ie. mobile, laptop, tab or any internet enable device.
Performance of internet speed is based on the available bandwidth assigned and condition of device for which internet is provided i.e. Internet speed varies for the mobile handset with 3g, 4g, 5g connectivity. IT is providing standard speed for all the devices.
Information Technology Department had installed wireless devices at floor levels to get connected to Somaiya Internet services. The Lease Line is used to get seamless connectivity and proper bandwidth to devices used by guest.
A restricted internet access is provided by Information Technology Department where unessential websites are restricted as part of Information Technology Internet access policy ie. malicious websites, phishing websites, streaming media.
Websites are banned potential liable for material like child abuse, drug abuse, pornography, adult material, violence, hacking, gambling etc.
4. RESPONSIBILITIES
Hostel team is responsible to maintain the log of the guest to whom the access is been provided by Information Technology Department.
Respected guest is solely responsible to use the internet facility in ethical manner. Somaiya Information Technology Department is not responsible for any kind of misuse of services i.e. threatening mail, use of computer in criminal activity, the live streaming of coerced sexual acts and or rape etc.
Information Technology department is responsible to create username and password for guest based on the request received from hostel authority.
5. SPECIFIC PROCEDURE
There is specific procedure maintain to provide internet access to guest. Hostel authority send a mail containing following information regarding guest.
- Name of the guest(s)
- Arrival date of guest
- Departure date of guest
- Hostel Name
- Room No.
Requestors have to send mail to Information Technology Department by raising a ticket generated automatically when mail is sent to techsupport@somaiya.edu.
Application support team assign the call to network support team to create the login of guest and to provide internet access for the defined period.
An Information Technology representative will revert on the same mail that will reached to requester with the details of credentials assigned to guest.
6. FORMS/TEMPLATES TO BE USED
A communication with details of guest as mentioned in point ‘Specific Procedure’ is mandatory to submit to Information Technology Department by sending mail to techsupport@somaiya.edu.
